St Donats hopes for grant reprieve

Staff at St Donats Arts Centre in the Vale of Glamorgan have won a key battle in their campaign against plans by the Arts Council of Wales to cut their funding.

An independent panel has ruled in favour of the venue's appeal against the scrapping of their £45,000 grant.

The centre, which has hosted a string of gigs by international and local jazz artists, is hopeful that the ACW will accept a recommendation to reinstate the grant at a meeting on April 25.

It's understood the panel did not support an appeal by the Welsh Jazz Society over the loss of its £50,000 ACW funding, but the society is also hopeful that the council itself will reconsider their case.
