Jazz Time Fridays at Cardiff's RWCMD

A new Friday evening jazz club is being launched at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

Jazz Time will run every week at 5.30pm from Friday 23 September to Friday 9 December 2011 in the college's new foyer area.

Curated by Paula Gardiner, each week will feature a different line-up of students offering their take on the best of contemporary sounds and repertoire.

Admission is free of charge and audiences can enjoy a drink from the college's new bar.

Brecon Fringe launches with Melly sculpture fundraiser

The Brecon Fringe festival opens on Thursday 11 August with a concert in aid of the George Melly Sculpture Appeal.

The Jen Wilson Ensemble will play play Twelve Poems, a jazz suite setting the poems of Dylan Thomas to music at Theatr Brycheiniog.

The appeal has already raised £32,000 of the £100,000 needed to pay for a tribute to the late musician who is credited as putting Brecon Jazz on the international map.

Llanelli: Strike Up the Bands - Saturday 13 August

Clarinettist Wyn Lodwick and his band headline a jazz concert on Saturday 13 August 2011 to launch a week of events marking the centenary of the Llanelli Rail Strike of 1911.

There's support from the Women in Jazz Allstar Swing Band featuring the Syncopated Sisters.

The gig tales place at the Selwyn Samuel Centre starting at 7.30pm - tickets £12 including a hot meal.

Jazz Jamaica at Cardiff Big Weekend

Jazz Jamaica are among the attractions of the Cardiff Big Weekend today - Saturday 6 August 2011.

They're due on stage outside Cardiff City Hall at 4.30pm.

Look out too for the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at 6.40pm and Vintage Trouble at 8pm, with Gabrielle headlining at 9.30pm.
